Henry Homebrewing {Part 2}

Although a little over due, here are the photos from the second step to our first homebrew...bottling!

Thanks so much to Blake and Brennan for helping out with this crazy process! We'll see how it all tastes next weekend...can't wait!

Henry Homebrewing {Part 1}

Well, Chris finally cracked open his Christmas present...a homebrewing kit. I know, I know...what was I thinking? But, after watching {and documenting} the process today, I have to say that I'm pretty intrigued.

Check out Chris brewing his first dry stout...

{Drinkin' a brew while he brewed}

Now, it's doing it's thing in a dark and cool part of our home for the next week.

Being a beer girl myself, I'm excited to see what happens next!

Coconut Water

A trend among celebrities and those who believe they are celebrities (myself included) is coconut water. Have you seen this?

source
Madonna , Lady Gaga, Jessica Simpson, among many others have been seen out and about with this naturally sweet beverage. Their bodies and skin are kickin', young and smooth due to this magic drink...I'm so sure. As you can imagine, I had to try it.

I picked up some ZICO: Pure Coconut Water from Whole Foods during my last trip. For some reason, I was pretty nervous to try it and I kept imagining this overly sweet, thick liquid. To my surprise, it was a truly refreshing beverage! If I ever woke up with the urge to work out or run (unlikely), I could totally see myself grabbing this drink during cool down.

According to ZICO's website, coconut water contains five essential electrolytes that keeps your body hydrated. One bottle has more potassium than a banana, which is 15 times more than most sports drinks, to prevent cramping. And, it has zero fat, zero cholesterol, zero added sugar and lower acidity than most sports drinks. To top it all off, the bottle is made from recycled materials and can be recycled when done! It comes in natural, lima citron, pomberry, passion fruit and mango. I'm just going to stick with the natural for right now!

Another popular brand is Vita Coco. I'll try this one next. Have you tried coconut water? What do you think?

Carrot-Daikon Tea

As pleased as I have been with The Kind Diet...this Carrott-Daikon weight loss tea is for the birds! It took me forever in Whole Foods to find all the ingredients, 30 minutes to grate and brew the tea, and over an hour to chug it down. GROSS! Maybe I made it wrong, so I'm going to try again tomorrow because despite it's nasty smell and taste...I haven't craved anything all day. In fact, had to make myself eat just now because I hadn't all day.

I'm all about loosing weight...but I'm going to have to weigh the pros and cons of this weight-loss tea. Try it for yourself and let me know what you think:

Ingredients:

1/2 cup grated (into a pulp) carrot
1/2 cup grated (into a pulp) daikon
1/4 of one umeboshi plum
1-2 drops shoyu
1/4 Nori sheet, ripped into small pieces (optional)

Bring carrot, daikon, umboshi plum and 1 cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Add shoyu and simmer for another 2 to 3 mins. Add nori, if using. Drink hot.
